UCHS Students Host Escape Room
University City High School students in David German's entrepreneur class came up with a unique business plan to raise money for a great charity. They planned, created and hosted an Escape Room called "The Strange Bunker" to raise money for a college scholarship.
Student teams of six to eight purchased $5 individual tickets to try to escape the room set up in Bishop Luther Baker's high school classroom, unofficially dubbed "The Baker Bunker." The teams had about an hour to solve riddles and puzzles and piece together clues to escape the room. The theme for the escape room was loosely based on the popular Netflix television show Stranger Things. Monsters, holiday lights and an Ouija Board puzzle were just part of the fun.
The long-term project required students in German's class to come up with an extensive business and marketing plan. The students who participated learned valuable skills, including how to manage their time, streamline their ideas, pitch it to possible sponsors, and tell a great story in their product to entice customers.
The Escape Room was held on April 12, 2019. The organization Black Entrepreneurs Inc. graciously matched the proceeds raised by the students through the escape room. Altogether, more than $360 was raised and put toward the Taylor Simpson Scholarship, which will be presented to a deserving UCHS graduate. The scholarship is administered by the Man of Valor, Inc., program run by Bishop Baker.
