Brittany Woods Hosts Student Business APP Showcase
Twenty-five students at Brittany Woods took part in the very first Business App Showcase on April 25. The school partnered with the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) in making sure the curriculum and lesson plans set the students up for success.
The event was structured like a science fair, with students presenting their projects on tablets to judges and other guests. Each school associated with NFTE hosts a similar event, which encourages students to think, act, and be creative, like an entrepreneur in solving a specific problem or fulfilling a specific need.
“I’m very proud of what our students came up with,” said Craig Morris, Behavior Restorative Practice Supervisor. “Students found their own problem in our community, and then set out to find a solution to that problem.”
According to Morris, the student teams were not required to come up with socially conscious ideas, but most of them did anyway. While this is a year-long program, students have only been working on their app projects since January.
Representatives from Mastercard were on hand to judge the projects, which were based on the following criteria: booth display, business pitch, overall communication, app design and idea innovation. Representatives with McBride Homes and the St. Louis Cardinals also attended the event.
Of the seven teams, three received prizes for their submissions. Those teams will go on to compete in the University City High School Science Fair on May 7.
The following students were winners in the 1st Annual NFTE Business App Showcase:
