summer jobs artwork Applications are being accepted for businesses and students who wish to participate in the 2018 University City Youth Summer Jobs Program. Deadlines are April 13 and 17, respectively.

The University City Youth Summer Jobs Program returns for another season, matching qualified University City students (age 16 or older) with participating U. City businesses. The U. City Chamber of Commerce is administering the program’s fifth year as a partnership between the City of U City and The School District of University City to provide employment for 30 students for up to 18 hours a week for 8 weeks (or 144 total hours) at a minimum wage rate of $8/hour during the summer, beginning in June and ending August 2, unless otherwise agreed upon.

About the student employees: Open to U. City students ages 16 years old by May 30, 2018, or have a current worker’s permit. Interested students must complete an application that are available in the UCHS Guidance Office (click here for downlaodable 2-page PDF or here for online "interest" form), and return it by April 17 to Christine Woodward. Student selection is based on a variety of criteria including grades, progression to graduation, and citizenship. These students will also attend job preparation classes and receive support through the summer to help reinforce job skills. Program staff will make site visits to ensure that the program is running smoothly for all. More information is available at

About participating businesses: Businesses receive partial financial reimbursement of the student wages from City Hall. Weekly work schedules will be agreed upon between the employer and the student.
