Got the Winter Blahs? Then It Is Time For Spice and Spark, the Annual Chili Cook-Off at Flynn Park on Jan. 26

cookoff Dealing with the winter blahs? Is your routine just meh?

One U City has the antidote for the winter doldrums at its upcoming Spice and Spark Chili Cook-Off and Social Action Expo at Flynn Park Elementary School on Sunday, Jan. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Admission is free to this popular joint elementary school PTO event. Participants will sample about two dozen different chili recipes, vote for a winner, and have the chance to purchase a spicy quart or two to take home with them. Though there are sure to be many favorites, only one chili master will be named the cook-off champ!

This year’s cook-off not only offers a lot of spice but also a bit of spark to motivate participants to become socially aware and active in meaningful causes in the year ahead. Various social action organizations will host tables to discuss their causes and ways to get involved.

Spice and Spark is part of One U City’s ongoing actions to promote equity and positive social action among its different PTOs. Formed last summer, One U City is a joint initiative among the District’s four elementary school PTOs to ensure all schools have shared resources to host strong parent events. Spice and Spark is the third One U City joint PTO event this year school year.  A Multi-Cultural Night is scheduled for March 3 at Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School.

Spice and Spark will also feature outside fire pits for s’mores and hot chocolate and other beverages and snacks will be available for purchase.

One U City still seeks volunteers, social action groups and chili chefs for the event and can register at www.ucityschools.org/1UCityChiliRegistration.
