UCHS Artists Honored at U. City in Bloom Plein Air Event
On Sunday, Sept. 22 UniversityCity Art students spent a wonderful day outside painting and drawing in "plein air" as part of the annual Plein Air Art Competition sponsored by U.City in Bloom.
The students worked in a variety of media, including oil paint, acrylic paint, pastels, watercolor and pencil to create beautiful artworks of the gardens around the high school.
The participating students were Maxine Adams, Anaiah Easley, Margaret Gardner, Sadie Malks, John Ruland and Angel Wells. Winners were:
- John Ruland - 1st place
- Sadie Malks - 2nd
- Anaiah Easley - 3rd
- Maxie Adams- Honorable Mention
- Angel Wells- Curator's Choice
Participating artists were invited to paint any of the U. City in Bloom gardens in an area bounded by Delmar, Hanley and Olive Boulevards and Pennsylvania Avenue. Artists worked on their creations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The canvases were then taken to Heman Park Community Center for judging. A reception followed with food and drink from University City restaurants.
