Superintendent to Receive Award
The School District of University City is pleased to announce that Sharonica Hardin-Bartley will receive the New Superintendent Award for the St. Louis District from the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA). Hardin-Bartley assumed the duties of Superintendent of Schools in July 2016. She previously served as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development for the Ritenour School District.
“Since being hired in the 2016-2017 school year, Dr. Hardin-Bartley has put her heart and her head into her work as Superintendent,” said Board President Joanne Soudah. “She is truly student-centered and deeply immersed in the work of moving our students and school district forward. This award is richly deserved, and we are proud to call her University City’s own!”
Hardin-Bartley is a native of St. Louis and grew up in north city. She is a graduate of Lafayette High School and has an undergraduate degree in elementary education and special education from Harris-Stowe State University. She earned an M.A. in Education Administration from St. Louis University and completed her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Hardin-Bartley currently lives in University City with her husband and daughter, who attends school in the District.
About the award: Each year, MASA presents an award to an outstanding new Missouri Superintendent of Schools from each MASA district. The award is in recognition of outstanding performance in the demonstration of those skills that reflect the best in educational leadership. Nominees must be a practicing superintendent in their second or third year of employment as a superintendent; have never served as a superintendent of schools in another state; made a measurable contribution to the school district they serve as a new Superintendent of Schools as verified by one or more practicing Superintendents from their MASA district; and be a member of MASA at the time of nomination.
MASA will present this year’s awards on Wednesday, March 27th at their annual conference at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Missouri.
