College Visit Road Trips Make Good Impressions

UCHS MIZZOU visit As part of the University City High School’s college-visit program, forty (40) UCHS juniors and seniors participated in a field trip to the campus of the University of Missouri - Columbia (MIZZOU) on Oct. 17, 2018. The students toured campus and got a taste of what college life would be like as a Tiger.

After the MIZZOU visit, UCHS students had some very positive comments about the facilities and campus atmosphere. “The food was great, and you could get as much as you want, so that's cool,” said Alona Jenkins. “The facilities at Mizzou are very top-notch, I'd say. They have a lot of resources.”

Kayla Merrill added, “The campus was really nice and the food's great, because I'm all about that food! And I was really impressed by all the students. People were nice. Decent diversity. They had a Black Student Union. The school is now really on the top of my list.”

UCHS students will also have the opportunity for another field trip to Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau on Nov. 5. The college field-trips are only open to high school juniors or seniors in good standing with a GPA of 2.5 or above, and students must sign-up in advance through the school guidance office.

Other UCHS college-awareness opportunities for October 2018 include scheduled on-site visits with representatives from Ranken Technical College, Drake University, McKendree University, College of the Ozarks and St. Louis University. Additionally, there are a variety of nearby college fairs and open houses which students will be encouraged to attend.
