National Voter Registration Day is a national holiday celebrating our democracy, held on the fourth Tuesday of September. It was first observed in 2012 and has been growing in popularity every year since.

"We at UCHS have always tried to educate our students on the importance of voting and making sure they are registered as soon as they are eligible," Linda Pritchard, UCHS Student Volunteer and A+ Coordinator, says. "Being registered to vote and voting has always been important...however, I think now it's more important than ever to engage schools, students and anyone in the community in this process...U. City Schools consistently tends to lead the way when it comes to exposing and educating our students on information that impacts their lives. It's a true example of Learning Re-imagined in action."

One example of such a student is the spearheader of the UCPL and LLC drives, U. City resident Roz Turner (UCHS Class of 1978), who shares that it was her U. City education in U. City Schools beginning at the age of 12 that enlightened her to the importance of voting. She says that she began organizing voter registration drives at the age of 19 with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority while attending Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman University. Turner also served as Legislative Chairperson for AARP Chapter #4048.

As a community advocate and UCPL Trustee, Turner adds, “National Voter Registration Day is a great way to collectively bring awareness to the importance of voter registration and voting. I hope voter registration is easily accessible all the time. I hope that even after Sept. 25 – UCHS, LLC & UCPL continues to offer voter registrations – maybe even the post office, retail and fast food outlets...every day, all the time.”
