Eighth-graders Visit WUSTL

BW students at WUSTL On October 16, 2018, half of Brittany Woods Middle School's eighth-grade students from Howard Team took a field trip to Washington University in St. Louis. The other half is scheduled to visit in November.

"(It) was an amazing experience," said Linnet Early-Husi, eighth-grade social studies teacher. The students had a chance to spend the morning at the recently remodeled Olin Library. There they saw the Declaration of Independence, the Hampton Archives and some very cool rare books and documents. Students listened to lectures from the curators and asked very specific questions.

The afternoon was spent touring the campus and learning some history about the school. They also had the chance to speak with a professor who hosted a question and answer session with the students and shared about college classes as well as African and Afro American history. "The students did great and asked wonderful questions," Early-Husi added. "Their minds were blown when they found out the typical WU student is expected to read 160 pages a week per class."

Early-Husi's students will have the opportunity to write about the trip. The best essays may be published in an upcoming edition of WashU's magazine. Watch for more information to come...
