Building STEM & Community

In Jessica Clark’s classroom at Pershing Elementary School, fifth-grade students teamed up to develop STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and community-building skills by building index card towers. Students were challenged to build the tallest freestanding tower using only index cards. The catch was - students could only use the index card after they wrote a word or phrase on the card to describe a group commonality.

"Students had a ball finding out how much they had in common with their classmates," said their teacher Jessica Clark.
