• Welcome to the The Walter Daniels Library Media Center serving grades K-5 at Pershing Elementary School.

    Library hours are 8:30 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    MATERIALS: All members of the Pershing School Community, including students, staff, and parents, are welcome to utilize the resources of the library. Students and parents may check out up to two books at a time for a circulation period of one week.

    INSTRUCTION: All students visit the library once a week for instructional time with the Library Media Sepcialist. All grades focus on listening skills, comprehension, and communication arts enrichment. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students also learn basic computer and information literacy skills.

    READING PROGRAMS
    Pershing students participate in three reading programs.

    •  The Mark Twain Award program is for Missouri students in grades 4-8. Students must read four books from the list of nominees in order to complete the program.
    • Third graders participate in the KC3 reading program. Students must read six books from the list of nominees in order to complete the program.
    • The Show Me Readers Award program is for students in grades 1-3. Students must read six books from the list of nominees in order to complete the program.

    When students are finished reading one of the nominated books, they should submit a verbal or written report to the librarian, who will record their progress on the reading program board in the library.

    Students who finish a reading program are eligible to vote for the winning book in March and to attend a spring Reading Program Pizza Party in the library.
