Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
Mission: Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community. Goal: Instill values of citizenship, leadership, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. Activities: Drill Team, Color Guard, Military Ball, Awards Banquet. Community Service: Red Cross sponsored Blood Drives, Community clean-ups, Recycling, Local Parades, and Community Events. Ambassador Program focuses on leadership development.
Anime Aguatics is for Anime lovers and gamers. Anime is a style of Japanese film and television animation that is characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action-filled plots often with fantastic or futuristic themes. Board Game Club believes anyone can play and that games can help bring people together in a fun, learning environment. Members play a variety of games, including party games, strategy games such as Pandemic and Dominos along with the classics - Uno, Scrabble and Pit and more.
Chess Club Mission: to acquaint students with the game, provide networking opportunities, promote the development of strategic critical thinking skills for realistic and future usage, and to encourage adherence to the code of ethics pertaining to the game and its competitive activities. Determined Strong Women (DSW) strengthens female scholars' positive identity by showing them they belong; they are known and loved. One goal of the club is to expand their aspirations by providing opportunities to serve, lead and socialize in ways outside of their typical experiences. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) promotes competent, aggressive business leadership; helps students understand American business enterprise; establishes career goals; encourages scholarships, high character and self-confidence; and facilitates the transition from school to work or higher education. Main activities include local, district and national awards programs as well as competition between local, state and national chapters, along with National Leadership conferences. Requirements include enrollment in a business education class.

HOSA - Future Health Professionals is for students who are interested in a possible career in the medical field. Activities include guest speakers, volunteering in the community, field trips to medical-related facilities and the state conference in the spring. Membership dues of $15 cover state and national dues. Key Club is a student-led high school organization in which the members make the world a better place through various volunteering projects in their community. In doing so, they grow as useful citizens and leaders by answering the call to lead, summoning the courage to engage and developing the heart to serve. UCHS Golden Girls Dance Team offers students an opportunity to participate in the study, performance, and production of different styles of dance through dance concerts, choreography, master classes, teaching and visits to other schools. Contact: Ms. Thomas at nthomas@ucityschools.org

Man of Valor strives to help male students recognize their own potential and fulfill their destiny and purpose. Focusing on social-emotional learning and academic support, everything Man of Valor does is founded upon Restorative Practices. In addition to building trusting relationships with and between students, Man of Valor staff monitor student attendance, behavior, and course performance and address corresponding issues through various interventions. Math Club is a fun and competitive activity that any student can participate in. It is a great way for students to develop intuitive thinking skills and learn new types of math. Students will not only learn new materials but will apply their previous knowledge from school to fun and challenging problems. Math is a subject full of creativity and opportunity that many students enjoy. Besides the academic benefits, this is also a great way to meet new people and develop teamwork skills.
Mock Trial team is composed of students at all grade levels. The team is part of the annual Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL). Students who participate in the team further develop basic life and leadership skills such as listening, speaking, writing, reading and analyzing. Cooperation, respect, teamwork, good sportsmanship, understanding how the law works, and increased understanding of the judicial process are all part of the Mock Trial experience. The tradition of success achieved by the team throughout the past years has brought pride and respect for the team collectively and for each team member individually. Requirements include being willing to work hard and cooperatively with adults and student coaches.
National Honor Society (NHS) students who meet the requirements are evaluated by the faculty council on the basis of leadership, service, and character. Individuals selected must maintain these standards in order to maintain membership. (See guidance department for brochure for details.) Requirements include senior, junior and sophomore status with a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher and selection by faculty council evaluation. Speech and Debate students develop techniques and prepare to compete in speech and debate events at local, state, and national competitions.
Sports Medicine Club (SMC) is dedicated to ensuring students interested in sports medicine can observe and experience the profession. Student aides gain knowledge of anatomy, physiology and sports-related injuries. Student aides garner valuable experience for future education and professional responsibility. They assist with immediate care of injuries once proper skills are obtained; observe and understand rehabilitation techniques while assisting athletes with basic rehabilitation exercises; assist with the application of modalities and understand the effectiveness of each, and assist with general athletic training procedures during games and practices. Student Advocates for Social Justice and Equity (U. City SAJE) is a student organization that empowers students to emerge as leaders who advocate for justice and equity in the classroom, school, community and society.
Student Council students are involved in decision making at UCHS. Student council representatives are elected in home-room classes in September. During the second semester, the student body elects a representative to the school board, a president of the student council and a vice-president of the student council to serve for the following school year. Students on the Go! is a team-based program that engages high school students in an active and healthy lifestyle year-round. Students train to run or walk (or both) the Go! St. Louis Half Marathon in April. Students embark on a personal journey of self-discovery where they explore and experience the lifelong benefits of a comprehensive health and fitness program. Theatre Club is divided into the following sub-groups:
- Fall & Spring Plays: Auditions are held each Fall and Spring for productions held in the University City High School Auditorium. Plays change each year. Listen to the announcements for try-out dates and more information.
- Spring Musical: Students interested in performing arts, stage production, singing, dancing, set construction, lighting design, auditorium sound and other aspects of drama showcase their skills and help produce the largest production of the school year. Traditionally held in March, it features the orchestra, dance, chorus and drama classes. Costumes, set design and construction, stage support and technical creations are provided by student crews. Often than 100 crew members including students, staff and parents participate in 6 -10 weeks of preparation and rehearsals for typically four performances. Recent musicals include Hello Dolly, Grease, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Dreamgirls, and The Wiz. Student requirements include 2.0 current GPA, try-out and 93% attendance.
- Improv Team: This group helps build acting skills for students in grades 9-12.
Transform UR Future (TUF) is sponsored by the Girl Scouts (GSEM): Students build skills as they serve as peer to near mentors through the facilitation of anti-violence lessons using peer-facilitation PAVE programming to younger students in neighboring schools. Transformers also have the opportunity to develop, implement and earn funds to support an action project for their school community.
Turning Resources and Energy into New Directions (TREND) is a national organization advocating a lifestyle free of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, working together with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. The purpose of TREND is to provide those students who wish to maintain a drug-free lifestyle with the opportunity to participate in positive leisure time activities with their peers.Contact: Ms. Quintal @ bquintal@ucityschools.org or Ms. Reed mreed@ucityschools.org
U-Serve’s goal is to expose students to a variety of community service experiences and volunteer opportunities both locally and beyond. Volunteer project opportunities and sign-ups are posted throughout the school and website. Collectively, UCHS students typically volunteer more than 10,000 hours annually for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Operation Food Search, U. City in Bloom, U. City Children’s Center, Family Haven Homeless Shelter, Children’s Hospital Sports Camp, the Scholar Shop, Make a Wish Foundation, Kid’s Place and others. We Schools instills a mindset of community or "WE" in our school, where students will research and develop action plans to solve complex local and global issues.
Weight Room is available and supervised after school four days a week during each sports season for all students to utilize bar bells, squat rack platforms, benches, free-weight training and arc trainers, treadmills and stationary bikes for cardiovascular training. Students work independently to increase muscle strength, muscle endurance and cardiovascular endurance. Students are expected to follow the weight room rules and expectations in addition to school and district procedures and policies. To participate in the weight room, students must have a recent physical on file with the UCHS Athletic Department at 31-240-4116.
YOGA Club is open to all UCHS students and incorporates the middle-eastern practice of yoga to build awareness and deep relaxation through Eight-Form Moving Meditation and Yogic breathing and deep meditation.
Youth Leadership St. Louis (YLSL), a FOCUS St. Louis program, is an extremely student-centered club where students serve in the role of process observer, dealing with a variety of global and local issues including social justice, poverty, education and diversity. Club members observe other students and provide feedback on how well they communicate with each other. An action research project is developed using previous year's research to implement a project that will help students and teachers build better relationships. A selected Project Leader will organize and delegate parts of the project to the rest of the team. Field trips and Saturday workshops are beneficial but not mandatory.
