Get Involved

Strong schools have strong family involvement, and they seek ways to include parents in the school community at every level. Research shows that students do better academically and socially when schools build positive relationships with their families.

Parental involvement in education is so important, regardless of family income or background. Involved parents help improve academic performance, increase attendance and create a more vibrant school community.

The School District of University City's families are included in its vision of Learning Reimagined, particularly in its goals of well-being and joy, racial equity and partnerships.

The District has many unique ways to include parents and families:

  • School events - Watch your school calendar for dates when you or your family members can visit classes or attend schoool plays, musicals, concerts, art shows, student displays and more.
  • Parent Teacher Organizations - The PTOs include One U. City, a joint parent organization for all of the elementary schools and Brittany Woods that focuses on equal opportunities, equity and inclusion for all families. UCHS has a traditional PTO.
  • Annual all-district events - including a Trunk or Treat/Pumpkin Stroll, District-wide arts and music celebration nights, a STEAM Expo and the Growing Together spring celebration.
  • Annual State of the District - a community event hosted by Superintendent Sharonica Hardin-Bartley.
  • University City Board of Education meetings - Regular meetings are held once a month, typically on the third Thursday of the month.
