School Board Elections – Public Notice of Filing
The School District of University City encourages any qualified person interested in running for a position on the School Board to file to be a candidate in the April 7, 2020, election. There are three positions available with three-year terms. Interested persons may file at the Board office located at 8136 Groby Road, University City, MO 63130. Filing will begin Dec. 17, 2019, (postponed to Wed., Dec. 18 due to District closure for inclement weather on Dec. 17) at 8 a.m. and will continue during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 2 - 4:30 p.m. Except for the first and last day of filing, filing will not occur on days that the school district’s central offices are closed due to inclement weather. Filing will also not occur on the following holidays and breaks when the school district’s central offices are closed: Dec. 23, 2019, through Jan. 3, 2020, and Monday, Jan. 20, 2020. Filing will end on Jan. 21, 2020, at 5 p.m.
The School District of University City is organized and governed by a seven-member Board of Education, elected by the public to serve as the educational advocates of our community's youth. The voters of the District elect Board directors for three-year staggered terms, with two directors elected in two successive years and three directors elected every three years. All board members are elected at-large and serve without monetary compensation.
The Board of Education is responsible for:
- Assuring school district performance.
- Hiring and evaluating the superintendent and delegate all administrative responsibilities.
- Adopting evaluation policies.
- Approving the school district's budget.
- Connecting with the community.
- Establishing goals and evaluating outcomes.
