ABOUT US
Special Services Under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
In conjunction with The School District of University City, the Special School District (SSD) of St. Louis County (SSD) provides special education staff, services, and programs for Clayton students with disabilities. A student qualifies for special education when it is determined, through evaluation, that there is an educational disability which “adversely affects educational performance” and requires special education services.
Special education and related services are support services for children identified as having a disability. In order for a child to receive special education and related services, your child must be found to have a disability and need specialized instruction. Once a child is found to have a disability and a need for specialized instruction, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed and special education and related services can begin.
