UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Grammy-nominated musician Christopher J. Thomas has been named University City’s 2024-25 Returning Artist and has been making the rounds of giving back to the community.
In October, Thomas began a tour of local schools to share the gift of music and inspire young people interested in the arts. On Friday, he visited the University City High School, where he met with students.
Thomas grew up in University City and began playing violin in fourth grade. He then studied cello and focused on the double bass at age 13, according to a University City School District news release.
Over the years he has performed with some of the top musicians in the world. A reception will be held in his honor at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the UCHS Library Media Center.
The returning artist distinction is awarded by the University City Municipal Commission on Arts & Letters, which annually selects a UCHS graduate who has achieved success in the arts.
