Air Force Junior Officer Reserve Training Corps:
Mission: Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.
Goal: Instill values of citizenship, leadership, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and sense of accomplishment.
Activities: Drill Team, Color Guard, Military Ball, Awards Banquet.
Community Service: Red Cross sponsored Blood Drives, Community clean-ups, Recycling, Local Parades, and Community Events.
Ambassador Program for Boys: Focuses on leadership development.
Ambassador Program for Girls: Focuses on leadership development.
Anime Club: If you are an Anime lover and gamer, then the Anime Club is for you. Starting 2nd semester in room 312, Mr. Clark. An announcement will follow for meeting day and time.
Art Club: Oriented students meet after school for art projects, sketching and occasional visits to art galleries. The Art Club usually sponsors a club fair in September featuring all of the Fine Arts. Requirements: interest in visual arts.
Blood Drive: The Blood Drive Committee sponsors two annual drives - one in the fall, one in the spring.
Board Game Club: This group meets in Room 114 after school on Thursdays and Fridays from 2:30 to 4:00. Meet to play a variety of games including party games such as Taboo and Apples to Apples as well as strategy games such as Pandemic and Dominion. Students are encouraged to play the classics - Uno, Scrabble, and Pit are all games that kids love to get out. At Board Game Club, we believe anyone can play and that games can help bring people together in a fun, learning environment.
Broadcast Journalism Club: This Club teaches students about the principles of journalism as it pertains to broadcast. Students learn how to write, report and edit stories, as well as the fundamentals of operating video equipment and computer software. Students produce and air documentaries, news magazines, and announcements for the school and community.
Chess Club: Students who are interested in the game of chess meet weekly to play with other students who are interested in chess. Chess club is for everyone. The club meets in room 114 on Thursdays and Fridays.after school. Beginners are welcome.
Determined Strong Women (DSW): strengthens our female scholars' positive identity by showing them they belong, they are known and loved. Expends their aspirations by providing opportunities to serve, lead and socialize in ways outside of their typical experiences.
Environmental Club: meets weekly on Wednesday in room 302 at UCHS. The club's primary focus is to start up school-wide recycling, reduce waste, raise awareness of environmental issues and develop initiatives to build a more sustainable community.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA): This organization is designed to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family members, wage earners and community leaders, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge and vocational preparation. Requirements: Enrollment in Family and Consumer Sciences course
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA): This organization is designed to promote competent, aggressive business leadership; to help students understand American business enterprise; establish career goals; encourage scholarship, high character, and self-confidence; facilitate the transition from school to work or higher education. Main activities include local, district and national awards programs as well as competition between local, state and national chapters along with National Leadership conferences. Requirements: enrollment in a business education class: Keyboarding Applications, Accounting, Business Technology, Computer Applications or Business Economics.
Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA): works to promote awareness and support for the LGBTQ community in University City and beyond.
Girls who Code: students partner with an external organization to promote girls in computer science.
Hispanic Club: This is an organization for people who are Hispanic OR for people who appreciate the Hispanic culture. The brand new, yet unnamed Hispanic/Latino Club at UCHS is not only for Hispanic students or students taking a Spanish class but for anyone who would like to enhance their cultural awareness. Another great aspect of this club is you get a chance to meet new people, make friends…and learn a little Spanish too!
HOSA: Future Health Professionals is an organization for students who are interested in a possible career in the medical field. We have guest speakers, volunteer in the community, and take field trips to medical-related facilities. Compete at the state conference in the spring. Membership dues are $15, which cover state and national dues.
Key Club: a student-led high school organization in which the members make the world a better place through various volunteering projects in their community. In doing so, they grow as useful citizens and leaders by answering the call to lead, summoning the courage to engage and developing the heart to serve. Meets every 4th Tuesday of the month in room 228. If you need more information, please contact Ms. Reed in room 228 or at 290-4209.
Kinesis Dance Club: This club offers students an opportunity to participate in the study, performance, and production of different styles of dance through dance concerts, choreography, master classes, teaching and visits to other schools.
Knitting Club: Provides a relaxing place where anyone can learn to knit or crochet. Beginners always welcome.
Latin Club: This group promotes an appreciation of Latin and the Classics and develop a strong sense of community among Latin students.
Man of Valor: Man of Valor strives to help male students at the high school recognize their own potential and fulfill their destiny and purpose. Focusing on social-emotional learning and academic support, everything Man of Valor does is founded in Restorative Practices. In addition to building trusting relationships with and between students, Man of Valor staff monitor students' attendance, behavior, and course performance and address corresponding issues through various interventions.
Math Club: is a fun and competitive activity that any student can participate in. It is a great way for students to develop intuitive thinking skills and learn new types of math. Students will not only learn new material but will apply their previous knowledge from school to fun and challenging problems. Math is a subject full of creativity and opportunity that many students enjoy. Besides the academic benefits, this will also a great way to meet new people and develop teamwork skills.
Mentors: Juniors and seniors mentor incoming freshmen. Mentors are expected to guide the freshmen through their first year of high school. Mentors are to involve freshmen with tutoring, after-school activities, and be a resource when needed. (See Additional Programs/Initiatives.)
Mock Trial: This Team is composed of UCHS students on all grade levels. The team is part of the annual Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL). Students who participate in the team further develop basic life and leadership skills such as listening, speaking, writing, reading and analyzing. Cooperation, respect, teamwork, good sportsmanship, understanding how the law works, and increased understanding of the judicial process are all part of the Mock Trial experience. The tradition of success achieved by the team throughout the past years has brought pride and respect for the team collectively and for each team member individually. Requirements: Be willing to work hard and cooperatively with adults and student coaches.
National Honor Society: NHS students who meet the requirements are evaluated by the faculty council on the basis of leadership, service, and character. Individuals selected must maintain these standards in order to maintain membership. (See guidance department for brochure. Requirements: seniors, juniors and sophomores who have a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher, selection by faculty council evaluation.
PAL (Police Athletic League): Using athletics and activities to build bridges between police, kids, and communities. The relationships that are built within the league are foundational in providing ongoing positive experiences between the community and local law enforcement. Robotics: STEM education through fun competition.
Speech and Debate: Students develop techniques and prepare to compete in speech and debate events at local, state, and national competitions.
Sports Medicine Club: The University City High School Sports Medicine Club (SMC) is dedicated to ensuring students interested in the sports medicine field achieve their personal and academic goals. The SMC was designed to create an environment where students can observe and experience the field of sports medicine. Student aides will gain knowledge of anatomy and physiology, related injuries to the demands of sport, assist with immediate care of injuries once proper skills are obtained, observe and understand rehabilitation techniques while assisting athletes with basic rehabilitation exercises, assist with the application of modalities and understand the effectiveness of each, and assist with general athletic training procedures during games and practices. The goal of the SMC is to prepare our student aides for future education and professional responsibility.
Student Advocates for Social Justice and Equity: U. City SAJE is a student organization that empowers students to emerge as leaders who advocate for justice and equity in the classroom, school, community, and society.
Student Council: Students are involved in decision making at UCHS. During the second semester, the student body elects a representative to the school board, a president of the student council, and a vice-president of the student council to serve during the following school year. Student council representatives are elected in home-room classes in September. The council elects a treasurer, two secretaries, and a parliamentarian.
Students on the Go! This team-based program engages high school students in an active and healthy lifestyle year-round. Students train to run or walk (or a combination of both!) the GO! St. Louis Half Marathon each April. Students embark on a personal journey of self-discovery where they explore and experience the lifelong benefits of a comprehensive health and fitness program. Student Representative to the School Board: The University City Board of Education has a non-voting student member to give input on Board matters from the students’ point of view. This position is a link between the highest governing body in the District— the Board of Education— and the student body at the high school.

Theatre Club: Includes the following groups:
- Fall & Spring Plays: Auditions are held each Fall and Spring for productions held in the University City High School Auditorium. Plays change each year. Listen to the announcements for try-out dates and more information.
- Spring Musical: Students interested in performing arts, stage production, singing, dancing, set construction, lighting design, auditorium sound and other aspects of drama showcase their skills and help produce the largest production of the school year. Traditionally held in March, it features the orchestra, dance, chorus and drama classes. Costumes, set design and construction, stage support and technical creations are provided by student crews. Over 100 students participate in 6 -10 weeks of preparation and rehearsals for four performances. Recent musicals include Hello Dolly, Grease, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Dreamgirls, and The Wiz. Requirements: 2.0 Current GPA, try-out, and 93% attendance
- Improv Team: This group helps build acting skills for students in grades 9-12.
TUF (Transform Your Future): sponsored by the Girl Scouts: “Transformers is a leadership development programs for high school students. Through the Transformer experience, students build skills as they serve as peer to near mentors through the facilitation of anti-violence lessons to elementary students in a neighboring school. Transformers also have the opportunity to develop, implement, and earn funds to support an action project for their school community. Transformers is part of the Transform UR Future (TUF) program sponsored by Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri.”
Turning Resources and Energy into New Directions: TREND is a national organization advocating a lifestyle free of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, working together with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. The purpose of TREND is to provide those students who wish to maintain a drug-free lifestyle with the opportunity to participate in positive leisure time activities with their peers. Group meets every 4th Tuesday of the month along with Key Club. See Ms. Quintal for more information in the UCHS Guidance Office or at 290-4110.
U-Serve: As the community service component, U-Serve’s goal is to expose students to a variety of community service experiences and volunteer opportunities. UCHS students are becoming more active as volunteers and are expressing heightened interest in community involvement, both locally and beyond. This activity is open to all students at UCHS. Lists of volunteer projects will be given to Seminar students on B days and PA announcements will be made. Sign-up sheets will be available at locations throughout the building and website for students wishing to sign up for volunteer positions. UCHS students typically put in more than 10,000 hours of time volunteering for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Operation Food Search, U. City in Bloom, U. City Children’s Center, Family Haven Homeless Shelter, Children’s Hospital Sports Camp, the Scholar Shop, Make a Wish Foundation, and Kid’s Place. Weight Room: The UCHS weight room is available after school for students four days a week during the fall, winter and spring season, and is supervised at all times during operation. Students have the opportunity to utilize Bar Bells, Squat Rack Platforms, Benches, free weight training and the Arc Trainers, Treadmills, and Stationary Bikes for cardiovascular training. Students will work independently to increase muscle strength, muscle endurance and cardiovascular endurance. Students will follow the weight room rules and expectations in addition to school and district procedures and policies. Students must have a physical on file, with the Athletic Department, to participate in the weight room.
WE Schools: This initiative instills a mindset of community or "we" in our school where students will research and develop action plans to solve complex local and global issues. (Click here for WE Schools' official website.)
YOGA Club: The middle-eastern practice of yoga is known to build awareness and opportunities for deep relaxation. This club meets in the dance studio on Tuesdays after school. All interested are welcome to attend. Starts begin with the Eight Form Meditation Movements; practice Yogic breathing and deep meditation. If you are ready to put stress behind you, the Yoga club is for you. Athletes are welcome. Activity passes will be provided to our Yoga club participants.
Youth Leadership St. Louis: YLSL, a program of FOCUS St. Louis, is extremely student-centered. Meets once a month to deal with a variety of topics like Social Justice, Poverty, Education, and Diversity issues that the St. Louis Region is currently dealing with. At these workshops, you play the role of process observer. You will be observing students and providing feedback on how well they communicate with each other. There is also an Action Research Project that the students will work on. The students are on Year Two which means they are building on last year's research to implement a project that will help students and teachers build better relationships. There is a student who is nominated as Project Leader, and they organize and delegate parts of the project to the rest of the team. There is one Field Trip a month and one Saturday Workshop that is not mandatory to attend. (Click here for YLSL's official website)
