Our Principal's Welcome

  • Welcome to University City High School (UCHS), serving ninth through twelfth grade students in The School District of University City. UCHS is fully accredited through the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and is a member of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Education Network of High Schools with Results program.Mike Maclin

Dear University City High School Community:

It is my privilege to be addressing you as the new Principal of University City High School!  I am excited for the opportunity to meet your child and get to know you as a family! My aim is to personally work with you to ensure that your family has the best possible educational experience.

I have high expectations for every student, while respecting that they are young adults coming into their own. I expect them to take responsibility for themselves: treat others with respect, present their best selves to the world and set goals, even if those goals change over time.

I also hold high expectations for myself and our high school team.  We will all work hard, in every situation, to engage students directly in finding their individual motivation to reach higher for the best solution to overcoming obstacles.  But, it would be good to know we can count on your support when needed. When it comes to your child’s education, it’s critical that we are all on the same team.

To help drive home this concept, we are committed to fulfilling our promise when we say that we “Believe in U.”  It is a hard-working slogan when you think of it from both sides! First, we believe in UCHS’ responsibility to educate, motivate, care for and protect your student. Second, we believe in accessing and amplifying each student’s innate talents and abilities.

In a broader sense, it ties directly into our Learning Reimagined initiative, which is outlined by our three pillar messages: we will personalize instruction, humanize contact with our students and problematize, or find solutions to, real world issues.  It’s an easier concept to embrace when you translate the three pillars to say, “you and I are in this together.”

No matter what grade-level, you can look forward to hearing about exciting and rewarding school experiences and opportunities that will make this year special. In addition to student achievement and success, we aim to make every year, one of personal growth and reflection along with powerful self-discovery.

Thank you, in advance, for your support!
