Launch Helps Students Earn Credits Through On-Line Courses

  • Launch brochure back cover with testimonialsIn spring 2018, The School District of University City began offering of a new online partnership for middle and high school students, including incoming freshmen, who want to jump-start their high school year with courses that are personalized to fit their individual interests. The virtual instruction program called, "Launch," is offered at no cost to families of District-enrolled students and makes it possible to earn high school credits in traditional and online settings simultaneously!

    UCHS offered online options before, but Launch allows students to take online learning to an entirely different level. Launch is a virtual academy that provides quality learning options that are approved by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHAA). All Launch courses are taught by certified Missouri teachers.

    "Launch is a great breakthrough in the modern learning process," said District Executive Director of Technology and Innovative Learning Robert Dillon, Ed.D. "It gives students a chance to have a voice in their education by allowing them to design a course schedule that is targeted to their personal goals."

    The Launch catalog includes more than 60 course options (up to 90 this summer) that extend the traditional offerings in basic, AP and specialized courses. This enables students to personalize their education experiences. In addition to current class offerings, students have the option of adding courses such as Astronomy, AP Computer Science, ACT Prep, Japanese I and II, Personal Finance, Web Design, Digital Communications and more. Launch also supports different learning needs by expanding access to additional course offerings, providing credit recovery for those who need extra help and making credit acquisition available for transfer students entering school mid-semester.

    Enrollment Process: Submit completed the Virtual Course Enrollment Form (2-page PDF) for application to participate (parent/guardian signature required). School administration will review, then either approve or deny. If denied, the school administration will contact the parent/guardian with explanation and information regarding the Family Appeal Document (2-page PDF) process.
