The University City Youth Summer Jobs Program returns for another season, matching qualified University City students with participating U. City businesses to provide employment for 30 students for up to 18 hours a week for 8 weeks (or 144 total hours) at a minimum wage rate of $8/hour during the summer, beginning in June and ending August 2. The business may choose to hire students for additional hours, either during the summer or in the upcoming school year. Weekly work schedules will be agreed upon between the employer and the student.
Requirements & Application: Open to U. City students ages 16 years old by May 30, or have a current worker’s permit. Interested students must complete an application that are available in the UCHS Guidance Office (click here for downlaodable 2-page PDF or here for online "interest" form), and return it by Mid April (extended to May 18) to Ms. Christine Woodward. Student selection is based on a variety of criteria including grades, progression to graduation and citizenship. These students will also attend job preparation classes and receive support through the summer to help reinforce job skills. Program staff will make site visits to ensure that the program is running smoothly for all.
Both participating businesses and student applicants are expected to attend the Job Fair: 2:30-4 p.m., Tues., May 8, UCHS Cafeteria. Business representatives will meet and have the opportunity to interview applicants in order to make hiring selections.
