  • Lions2Tigers logo Foundation Golf Tournament Unites University City High School and Mizzou in Graduate Scholarship Opportunity

    The Darren’s Lions2Tigers will host its third annual golf tournament at Pevely Farms Golf Club (400 Lewis Road, Eureka, MO) on Friday, Oct 11, 2019.

    The 4-person scramble tournament will start with a lunch at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. shotgun start. Funds raised will be used for scholarships to benefit University City High School graduates (UCHS Lions) attending The University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou Tigers).  The Foundation was created to honor Darren Valeriote, UCHS Class of 1988, who passed away in February 2016.

    Since 2018, the Foundation (501c3) awarded $7,500 each year to three UCHS graduates based on their academic success, essays and acceptance to Mizzou in the fall. The 2018 “Lions2Tigers” scholars were Kathryn Fuller, communications; Jahlyn Richmond, business accounting, and Jonathan York, information technology. The 2019 scholarship recipients were Domonic Torno, Kayla Merrill
    and Makayla Jones. 

    Chris Valeriote, UCHS class of 1984, says the scholarship program honors the educational path taken by his younger brother, “Darren was so proud to be a U. City grad. He developed a lot of friendships during his time at U. City that lasted his entire life and many of his UCHS friends attended Mizzou with him. It seemed like a natural transition to include Mizzou in the scholarship."

    Darren Valeriote 1984 Darren graduated from Mizzou in 1993 with a psychology degree and went on to establish a successful home healthcare business, Senior Services, which provides hourly or live-in help for seniors who wish to stay in their homes. He is survived by his wife Stacey and sons Steven and Alex. 

    The Foundation is asking the U. City community and UCHS alums to participate in the 2019 Golf Tournament. The cost is $125 per golfer and the deadline to enter is October 4, 2019. Lunch and beverages are included.
