There are many activities for students at University City High School. Listed below is each club/organization, a brief description and the contact information for the club sponsor.
Art Club
Art-oriented students meet after school for art projects, sketching and occasional visits to art galleries. The Art Club sponsors the annual Arts night in April, featuring all of the Fine Arts. Requirements: interest in visual arts.

ATV (Against the Violence)
University City High School has started an against the violence program titled A.T.V "Against the violence." Our mission is to replace violence with talent. We have various sectors: Gospel choir, A.T.V Singers, Praise Dancers, Hip-hop dancers, as well as a speaker and actor sector. We have come up with a plan to occupy the time of young people with something productive. We believe lecturing youth goes in one ear and comes out the other. However, if they have something to do that they enjoy, there will be a better outcome.

Broadcasting
The Broadcast Club will teach students about the principles of journalism as it pertains to broadcast. Students will learn how to write report and edit stories, as well as the fundamentals of operating video equipment and computer software. Students will produce and air documentaries, news magazines, and announcements for the school and community.

Chess Club
Students will study competitive rules and strategies for chess. Students will play in chess tournaments and play competitively against other high schools.

Drama Club
Drama clubs meets as needed to put on plays throughout the year. The varsity drama club is called Black Mask, and the freshmen club is called Red Dagger.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
Promoting personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family members, wage earners and community leaders, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge and vocational preparation. Requirements: Enrollment in Family and Consumer Sciences course.

Freshman Class
Class officers are elected in the fall to serve for freshman year. Each class elects four officers: president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. These officers work with sponsors to plan spirit activities and other service and fundraising activities as needed.

FOCUS-YOUTH LEADERSHIP ST. LOUIS (YLSL)
This group educates our region’s youth to become our future leaders. Founded in 1989, the program provides high school juniors with a firsthand opportunity to gain problem-solving skills and strategies, develop awareness of issues in our region, and learn how they can make a positive difference. The premiere youth leadership training curriculum in the region, YLSL is the area’s only established inter-district high school program that is non-competitive in nature.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
This organization is designed to promote competent, aggressive business leadership; to help students understand American business enterprise; establish career goals; encourage scholarship, high character and self-confidence; facilitate transition from school to work or higher education. Main activities include local, district and national awards programs as well as competition between local, state and national chapters along with National Leadership conferences. Requirements: enrollment in a business education class: Keyboarding Applications, Accounting, Business Technology, Computer Applications, or Business Economics.

Gay, Straight Alliance and Diversity Awareness (GSAADA)
GSAADA group works to create an environment of acceptance for all students and faculty at University City High School. Through dispelling stereotypes and spreading awareness of issues, the group fulfills its mission to promote acceptance for all races, economic classes, sexual orientations, ages and genders allowing all students and faculty to work closely together.

The purpose of the Hip-Hop/R&B club is to give the students at University City High School the opportunity to express their talent for Hip-Hop/R&B. We are hoping that members of the club will be able to perform at events of University City High School and perhaps assemblies.

Knitting Club
The purpose of Knitting Club is to provide interested students the tools and guidance to learn to knit. We will knit for pleasure and to donate (lap blankets to retirement homes, baby blankets for hospitals, etc.)

Latin Club
Latin Club strives to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity.

Mock Trial
The Mock Trial Team is composed of UCHS students on all grade levels. The team is a part of the annual Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL). Students who participate on the team further develop basic life and leadership skills such as listening, speaking, writing, reading and analyzing. Cooperation, respect, teamwork, good sportsmanship, understanding how the law works, and increased understanding of the judicial process are all a part of the Mock Trial experience. The tradition of success achieved by the team throughout the past years has brought pride and respect for the team collectively and for each team member individually. Requirements: Be willing to work hard and cooperatively with adults and student coaches.

National Honor Society
Students meeting the requirements will be evaluated by the faculty council on the basis of leadership, service and character. Individuals selected must maintain these standards in order to maintain membership. (See Guidance Department for brochure.) Requirements: seniors, juniors and sophomores who have a 3.3 accumulative GPA or higher, selection by faculty council evaluation. NHS meets every Tuesday after school in room 112.

Spectrum
This group meets as a forum for poetry, prose, short stories and other forms of literary expression and produces an annual magazine is published for release in May. The editorial staff is made up of students and faculty sponsors.

Spring Musical
Students interested in performing arts, stage production, singing, dancing, set construction, lighting design, auditorium sound and other aspects, of drama showcase their skills and help produce the largest production of the school year. Traditionally held in March, it features the orchestra, dance, chorus and drama classes. Costumes, set design & construction, stage support and technical creations are provided by student crews. Over 100 students participate in 6 - 10 weeks of preparation and rehearsals for four performances. Recent musicals include Hello Dolly, Grease, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Dream Girls, and The Wiz. Requirements: 2.0 Current GPA, try-out, permission of the appropriate director.

Step Team
To provide high expectations that ensure excellence in the areas of academic's, leadership, confidence, artistic beliefs, healthy life-styles, community service importance, discipline, self-control, composure, positive competition etiquette and professional reality, into the lives of every young man and woman in the program upon completion of the program, and graduation from high school.

Student Council
Students are involved in decision making at University City High School. During the second semester, the student body elects a representative to the school board, a president of the student council, and a vice-president of the student council to serve during the following school year. Student Council representatives are elected in home-room classes in September. The council elects a treasurer, two secretaries and a parliamentarian.

Student Volunteers for Community Service
This activity is open to all students at University City High School. Lists of volunteer projects will be given to Seminar students on B days and PA announcements will be made. Sign up sheets will be available at locations throughout the building for students wishing to sign up for volunteer positions. UCHS students typically put in more than 10,000 hours of time volunteering for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Operation Food Search, U.City in Bloom, U.City Children's Center, Family Haven Homeless Shelter, Children's Hospital Sports Camp, the Scholar Shop, Make a Wish Foundation, and Kid's Place.

Turning Resources and Energy into New Directions (TREND)
A national organization advocating a lifestyle free of the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Working together with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse to encourage students to make healthier choices in spite of pressures and stresses in their daily lives, such as T.A.T.U. (Teens Against Tobacco Usage), an educational group that goes to elementary schools in our district to prevent substance abuse.

UC Us Read Club
UC Us Read is the name of the new University City School District reading program for grades 3-12. Every library featured one genre per quarter, and students who completed the program read at least one book from each genre during the school year. Students visited their building librarian to report on each book that they read. Students who completed the program received a READ poster with their picture on it.
