Flynn Park PTO

The Flynn Park PTO is organized for the purpose of supporting and enhancing the educational experiences of Flynn Park Elementary School’s students by providing an organization through which the parents, school, and teachers can work cooperatively, and by providing financial support for programs funded outside of the annual school budget.

2011-12 PTO Officers

General Information

PTO Special Presentation: We were honored to have Dr. Carol Dweck Ph,D. come and speak with our parents and teachers about motivating children and the philosophy behind her latest groundbreaking book entitled: “Mindset”. Dr. Dweck also spoke about her “Brainology” Concept / Series as well. It was a wonderful and extremely informative evening. We thank Dr. Dweck for taking time out of her busy schedule to address our Parents and Teachers and offer her valuable insights.

THINK TANK: This year we began a new PTO tradition … Our First Annual “Think Tank”. This event was set up for “parents only” to discuss concerns about anything surrounding or having to do with our school. Concerns and questions were raised about everything from classroom size, curriculum, to communication and playground size/safety. This was a very well attended meeting and feedback has been exceptionally positive. Questions and Concerns were brought to our Principal – Dr. Blumberg and to our Board Representative – Linda Peoples. Answers and Insights will be presented at our last PTO Meeting on May 16th. We will host a Family Barbecue from 6:00 – 6:30pm with the Presentation following from 6:30 – 7:45pm. As always – Childcare will be provided for ages 3 and up free of charge.

HAT’S OFF TO OUR TEACHERS: TEACHER APPRECIATION! Any opportunity we have to support and show our appreciation to our teachers is important to the PTO. A luncheon was provided for our wonderful teachers and educational staff during Teacher Appreciation Week in the Multi-Purpose Room. The lunch was catered by Uptown Café’ in Clayton who did a fantastic job! Parents served the teachers and offered an awesome array of homemade desserts which were provided by our parents as well. Decorations were themed – “Hats Off to Our Teachers”! A special thanks to the Teacher Appreciation Committee for providing such a special lunch and “social” for our teachers.

Upcoming PTO Events

SPRING PICNIC: This long running tradition at Flynn is Sunday May 20th from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. This is a community friendly event held outside on the beautiful grounds of Flynn Park. We will have music, dancing, snow cones, and games. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket and picnic dinner! We spread out all over the park area on the South side of the school. It is a very well attended and well-loved event! We encourage the surrounding neighborhoods to join us (regardless of whether or not you have children attending FP) and of course encourage former Flynn Students to join us in this tradition. We would also like to extend this invitation to our friends at Jackson Park, Barbara C. Jordon, and Pershing Elementary Schools!!

SPRING FLING CARNIVAL: The last day of school is Wednesday May 30th and we plan to out on a high, fun note! This event is held during the school day for our students in the form of a carnival. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to help run games and serve treats. If you would like to volunteer please contact Tracy Gritsenko at tracy.gritsenko@industrialaid.com or Principal Dr. DeAun Blumberg at dblumberg@ucityschools.org. Please remember that this is an early release day!!
