About Flynn Park Elementary
Built in a “Craftsman style,” Flynn Park Elementary School opened in 1924. It was named for the adjacent park, named for the city’s then mayor Warren C. Flynn, who established the park system in University City. Designed by architects Ferrand & Finch, the building is listed in the St. Louis County State Historical Inventory. Ferrand was the dean of the architectural school at neighboring Washington University.
Flynn Park earned the National Award of Excellence in Education, also known as the Blue Ribbon School award, the highest honor from the U.S. Department of Education and the national Drug-Free Schools award. Washington University has also recognized Flynn Park as a Total Quality School.
Flynn Park School will receive classroom renovations along with a new cafeteria as part of the $53 million bond issue.
