About Barbara C. Jordan Elementary

Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School was opened in 1952 as Daniel Boone Elementary School, designed by architect William B. Ittner.  It stands on the site of the original, temporary Daniel Boone School which served students from 1930 to 1942. In 1996, the school was renamed for the distinguished black U.S. Representative from Texas. Due to the passage of bond issue Prop U, construction for a new building began in 2009 and students were temporarily relocated to the McNair Building on Groby Road.

In the fall of 2011, the new Barbara C. Jordan building will welcome back its students, including new students from part of the Nathaniel Hawthorne Elementary attendance area.
