UCEF hosts In the Night Garden
The University City Education Foundation hosted In the Night Garden, their spring 2012 fundraising event, on June 2 at The Green Center. Nearly 100 guests enjoyed delicious deserts and beverages, live music, displays from UCEF grant recipients and fabulous silent auction items while strolling about The Green Center property. Ultimately, approximately $6,000 was raised for School District of University City students.
“Our spring fundraiser was a great success,” siad Kishsa Robinson, UCEF president. “It was great to see nearly one hundred guests, including teachers, school board members, school administrators, local officials, UCHS alumni and UCity residents come out in support of the University City Education Foundation and the important work the Foundation does in our schools. The money we raised will fund several new grants, helping our teachers bring exciting and innovative programs directly to our students.”
Event musicians included Mario Turnage on the violin and Grace Deitzler, UCHS senior, playing keyboard.
Silent auction donations ranged from jewelry and artwork to specialty gift baskets and certificates were donated by Big Shark Bicycles, Robust Wine Bar and Traci Moore Clay Graphics as well as many other generous donors.
The UCEF board includes Kishsa Robinson, president; Victor Pichon, treasurer; Pat Frederiksen, secretary; Tony Taylor, member-at-large; and directors Bev Brandt, Maryanne Coley, Cassandra Conner, Kim Deitzler (event co-chair), Beth Martin, Meg McClelland, Tom Peters (school board representative), Kristin Sobotka, Holly Tasker and Cindy Thierry (event co-chair). Event photographer was UCHS alumnus Demetrious Webb.
Since it was founded in 1996, UCEF has provided almost $200,000 in grants. All funds raised by UCEF go toward grants that stimulate opportunities to enhance student learning such as after school physical fitness activities, reading programs and visual/performing arts.
