2012 Returning Artist Week Announced
January 04, 2012
The Municipal Commission on Arts and Letters for the City of University City and the School District of University City are pleased to welcome University City High School (UCHS) alumni Darwin Harris (Class of 1991) and Sallie DuMaine (Class of 1980) for Returning Artists Week beginning Feb. 6, 2012. Harris, an actor, and DuMaine, a musician, will collaborate for the week-long residency that offers UCity students additional exposure to career possibilities in the arts.
Harris began acting in high school in the UCHS production of West Side Story and completed a BA in theater from Truman State University. His TV work includes roles on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” “Brothers and Sisters,” “Crossing Jordan,” “Cold Case” and “Men, Interrupted.” His film appearances include titles such as “Hearts Desire,” “Average American Marriage,” “Trespass,” “The Boston Strangler,” “Lost” and “Home Alone 3.” Harris has also appeared in stage productions with Santa Monica Playhouse, Charles Banks Theater and others.
DuMaine is an accomplished vocal musician, in addition to composing music and directing musicals. Following graduation from UCHS, DuMaine completed a degree in music at Washington University in St. Louis. Her musical productions include “Kiss Me Kate,” “Godspell,” and “Pump Boys and Dinette,” for which DuMaine received a 2011 Kevin Kline Award nomination in the category of Outstanding Musical Direction.
Harris and DuMaine will visit classrooms throughout UCity during Returning Artists Week in February to present collaborative lessons about acting and music. A public reception will be held Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the UCHS Library, located at 7401 Balson Ave.
