The men conquered the courts for the first annual Old Skool Shootout basketball tournament on a Saturday in November 2008. Going all the way back to the graduating class of 1992 to the more recent class of 2008, the basketball tournament allowed the alumni to reunite with past schoolmates and teammates to compete with others for the first place trophy and bragging rights as the best graduating class.
The tournament was an event for the entire family; fully equipped with a D.J., concession stand snacks, and the entertainment of the “old skool” players. With such a great turn out, the tournament raised money to go towards the basketball program at our school. The Old Skool Shootout was conceived of and organized by Mr. Rich, interim assistant principal. Also, to help with the organization of this event, the varsity players of the boys’ basketball team stood in as the referees and scorekeepers for the tournament’s games.
In the end, the graduating class of 1997-1998 was victorious and the tournament succeeded in reuniting the alumni of UCHS. A current teacher and alumna, Ms. Nevils says, “My experience at the Old Skool Shootout was phenomenal. It actually felt like a multi-class reunion and I look forward to future Shootouts to become bigger and better!”
