College Made Easy

College Bound at UCHS

Getting into college is the hardest part of graduating for most seniors, but at U. City the process is made easy for select students. College Bound is a non-profit organization focused on helping high school students from under-resourced backgrounds learn about, and get into college. Students learn about the college process and what is involved in choosing the right school.

“College Bound taught me that you definitely need financial aid. I learned that there are different systems set up that can help you reach your dream school,” said junior Jaanna Anaemeribe.

Through free ACT preparations and university tours, College Bound students are exposed to test tricks and college life, all before their senior year. College Bound students get together during seminar and evaluate and determine what college and life is all about. The students learn skills that should stick with them throughout life, like how to create a resume, and how to write a personal statement.

“With College Bound, I learned so many new tricks for the ACT. They hired coaches for us, and made us take practice tests on early Saturday mornings like the real test. It got me prepared for the real test, and it improved my scores. College Bound was a huge help, and I don’t think I could have done as well without them,” praised junior Te’Areia Griffin.

A stepping stone to success, College Bound is preparing students for the world outside of high school. Job shadowing and career research are a few of the activities happening in the junior College Bound class.

“I got the inside look into things I otherwise would not have paid attention to because of College Bound,” said junior Kenny Williams. “We went on a trip to see what goes on behind the scenes at a hotel, and I experienced jobs that I otherwise would not have taken a second look at.”
