Dr. Katherine Bailey receives Counselor of the Year award
Katherine Bailey, college/career resource coordinator at University City High School, will receive the 2010 Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) Salute to Excellence Counselor of the Year award at the annual Salute to Excellence awards ceremony on September 17, 2010.
SEMO sponsors the award to “recognize a St. Louis area counselor who makes an extraordinary commitment to their school community by nurturing first-generation students and students who are historically underrepresented in postsecondary education.”
As a part of the counseling staff at UCHS, Bailey works with students at all grade levels to help them prepare for and apply to college or trade schools or explore career opportunities. Bailey was nominated for the award by two peers, one working in secondary education and one in higher education.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized for doing what you love and what you are called to do,” said Bailey.
As part of the award, SEMO grants a scholarship for Bailey to award to a UCHS student attending the university. Bailey selected Najeana Henderson, a 2010 graduate currently attending SEMO, as the scholarship recipient.
