"Topping Out" event at Barbara C. Jordan Site, April 20
School District of University City and community mark completion of steel structure for new elementary school building
(UNIVERSITY CITY, MO)—The School District of University City will mark the completion of the steel structure at the new Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School through a topping out event, where District and community representatives will autograph the final steel beam prior to its placement in the building’s structure. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, at 2 p.m. on the school site, located on the site of the previous school building at 1500 North 82nd Boulevard in University City (63130). In addition, current elementary students, staff and community members will contribute items to a time capsule to be placed later in the construction process.
The new Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School is part of extensive capital improvements within the School District of University City paid for by the passage of the $53M Prop U bond issue in April 2009. Following the demolition of the previous building last year, students of Barbara C. Jordan have been attending class in the school’s temporary loca-tion within the McNair Administration Building. The new school building is expected to be complete in early 2011 with formal dedication prior to classes commencing in the new Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School building in August 2011.
