Tour the new science wing at UCHS

Renovations made possible by Prop. U bond issue funds

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 29, 2010

(UNIVERSITY CITY, MO)—Principal Tim Wernentin and University City High School (UCHS) students are hosting an open house and tour of the new science wing on Thursday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. The newly renovated, high-tech science labs are part of districtwide improvements made possible by the community’s support of the $53.6M Prop. U bond issue last spring.

Construction began on the third-floor wing last August. The new section provides 14 classrooms, including three science labs and one computer lab. District and outside contractors used green technology in adding daylight sensors to adjust artificial lighting based on available sunlight. There are also efficiencies in the HVAC system to blend fresh air with internal air supply, as well as alternate watershed and drainage systems to minimize water run-off.

Future renovations at UCHS include five additional classrooms on the third floor, the Hall of Fame hallway, front entrance and lobby, administrative office and attendance office redesigns, bathroom updates and elevator improvements.

Following the tours, Principal Wernentin will present an overview of all construction plans and progress, as well as discuss upcoming curriculum and schedule changes at the high school.
