• UCHS announces 2009 Hall of Fame Inductees

Alumni to be inducted into the UCHS Hall of Fame

A jazz musician, infectious disease physician with the Center for Disease Control, and two University City police officers are among the 13 University City High School (UCHS) graduates selected for induction into the school’s 2009 Hall of Fame.

The UCHS Hall of Fame was established in 1999 as a way of recognizing alumni accomplishments. During its brief history, 88 UCHS graduates have been inducted. Some of the past honorees include playwright Tennessee Williams, OASIS founder Marylen Mann, sculptor Saunders Schultz, Grammy Award winning rapper Cornell “Nelly” Haynes, Oakland A’s co-owner Lewis Nelson Wolff, and philanthropist E. Desmond Lee.
Members of the 2009 UCHS Hall of Fame induction class are:

➤ Myrna Balk, Class of 1957, international social worker and artist, Simmons College Graduate School of Social Work

➤ Jesse “Jack” R. Bodine, Class of 1944, engineer, formerly executive vice president, Bodine Aluminum

➤ Marty Ehrlich, Class of 1973, jazz musician

➤ “Mama” Lisa M. Gage, Class of 1980, educator, Normandy Middle School and Lindenwood University

➤ The Late Roger Edward Gollub, M.D., Class of 1973, pediatrician, Alaska Native Medical Center - commissioned officer for U.S. Public Health Service on assignment to South Central Foundation

➤ Suzy Gorman, Class of 1980, professional photographer

➤ Robert “Bob” Hamilton, Class of 1956, news anchor, KMOX radio

➤ Carol Ann Jackson, Ph.D., Class of 1974, first female captain, University City Police Department

➤ The late Michael R. King, Class of 1976, sergeant, University City Police Department

➤ Eric Jesse Norman, Ph.D., Class of 1959, medical researcher and laboratory director, Norman Clinical Lab and DNA Diagnostic Services, Inc.

➤ Sanford “Sandy” E. Pomerantz, J.D., Class of 1958, attorney Goffstein, Raskas, Pomerantz, Kraus & Sherman, L.L.C.

➤ Frank O. Richards, Jr., M.D., Class of 1971, pediatric infectious diseases physician, National Center for Disease Control and Prevention - Atlanta, GA

➤ Raymond A. Thomas, Class of 1984, creative art director, Johnson Publishing Company, Inc.

The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, October 23, at the Crowne Plaza in Clayton. The reception begins at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p.m. (Click here for a 1-page PDF of the informational flyer with reservation form that can be printed and mailed with check.) 

In 2005, Hall of Fame officials decided the induction should be held every two years instead of annually. Nomination deadline is the last Friday in January of odd-numbered years. Inductions are held later that fall on the Friday of Homecoming weekend. UCHS alumni are eligible for Hall of Fame nomination 10 years following graduation.Nominations are also accepted posthumously.
