The Pershing Library received a facelift this summer in preparation for the 2008-2009 school year. After his initial assessment of the library principal Herbert L. Buie saw the need to make improvements. He developed a committee for library improvement, the committee was made up of teachers, library staff, and himself. The committee came up with a list of improvements that included a smartboard, new tables, chairs, and book shelves. The improvements totaling almost $20,000.00 are receiving rave reviews from students, parents, and staff. "The library is more conducive to learning," stated Ms. Cooksey-Bonner, Pershing's librarian, and "the students are excited about learning," she concluded. She's awaiting the arrival of several hundred new books that were purchased in addition to furnishings.
The library will host the annual Scholastic Book Fair for the first time. The Book Fair is normally held in Pershing's gym. "The library is more appropriate for such a gala event," stated Ms. Cooksey-Bonner
