Delmar-Harvard: Welcome

Delmar-Harvard Welcomes New Principal and Staff Members

August 20, 2008

Phyllis Fredericksen, Ed.D., Principal

Dr. Fredericksen comes to us with 30 years’ experience in education—20 years as a principal.  Her philosophy of education stresses creating an environment that inspires life-long learning.

Dr. Fredericksen loves to read. Her favorite book is The Wind in the Willows and she loves Shel Silverstein's poetry, especially the poem, "Sick".  Her offices at home and school are decorated with Wizard of Oz memorabilia because there really is "no place like home".  She recommends the book, Beauty, by Robin McKinley (based on the fairy tale, but with an empowered heroine.)

On a personal note, she has two grown children and three grandchildren. She is from Chicago and is a Blackhawks and Cubs fan. (Should we tell Ms. Dunham?!)

Dr. Fredericksen says that she is very impressed with the community spirit here.  She appreciates our close-knit community and supportive parents. Welcome, Dr. Fredericksen!

Demetrius Cook, Custodian

Mr. Cook is relatively new to the district, but not to Delmar-Harvard.  He went to school here and was in Ms. Dunham’s kindergarten class!

Jan Hunter, Speech and Language

Ms. Hunter has nearly 15 years of experience in speech and language therapy, in clinics and schools.  She loves all animals, especially dogs, and she loves smiles!

Kate Kaczerowski, Permanent Substitute

Ms. Kaczerowski (Kazz er ow skee) comes to us from Rockwood School District with experience as classroom assistant and substitute teacher. She is working on her Master’s degree in reading and loves If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  She is excited to be at Delmar-Harvard and to meet everyone.

Moira Kelly, First Grade

Ms. Kelly is a new teacher with lots of practical experience with various ages--preschool-third grade.  She believes all students can learn and is excited to help each of her students find a way to succeed.  Ms.  Kelly loves the outdoors and will be bringing her love for nature into the classroom.  “I feel so welcomed by all the staff and students at Delmar-Harvard,” she declares enthusiastically.

Christi Parker, G.A.T.E

Ms. Parker has 10 years of experience teaching gifted children.  She’s a published author and an avid reader.  Some of her favorite books are If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Holes, and The Giver.  She has a five-year-old son.

Julie Theobald, R.N, School Nurse

Ms.Theobald is an experienced nurse, most recently in intensive care.  She also has intensive experience as a mother; she has four children, ages 6,9,13 and 15. She is looking forward to getting to know Delmar-Harvard students.

Evelyn Williams, Food Service

Ms. Williams has worked in food service in “every school in the district” and now Delmar-Harvard.
