African American Experience

News and Notes

by Shelley Propst

May 22, 2008

In African American Experience (T3) we skip ahead in history to study the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Civil Rights Movement.  Students will read several texts by and about Dr. King, and will write an individual paper related to the theme of the school district's annual celebration in January.  The theme is "Celebrating the Impact of Dr. King on Today's Society".  Students will create papers in three steps, a prescribed pre-write, a first draft and a final draft.  The best papers will be chosen for submission to the district for possibly publication in the annual commemorative booklet.   Click on the following links to find copies of class hand-outs:

Look in this section to find daily notes for classes you miss:

November 17-21  We are reading over the assignment sheet for the Dr. King writing project and the short biography of Dr. King.  Students should be thinking about a good thesis statement related to the theme of this year's celebration, and listening and looking for a quote from Dr. King to support the strengthen that thesis statement.  B day meets only once this week so students in B-day classes will need to be very careful to read the assignment sheet fully and save all papers!
