Brittany Woods Jazz Band to Perform at the Sheldon

The award winning Brittany Woods Middle School Jazz Band will perform at the Sheldon Concert Hall for its annual jazz band concert on Thursday, May 15 at 8 p.m.
Performing with student musicians will be local jazz greats Mae Wheeler, “Peanuts” Whalum, Charlie Rose, Ptah, Matt Zillanger, Picket, Craig Florez, Josh & Jo-el Williams, Charles Clements, Kendrick Smith, Eli Katz and Fran Chon.
In February, the Brittany Woods jazz band was awarded second place in the best junior high jazz band category at the 22nd Annual Mu/Phi Alpha Jazz Festival in Columbia, Mo. In April, the band won three unanimous excellent ratings from national and international adjudicators during their performance in the 2nd Annual Clark Terry Jazz Festival in Pine Bluff, Ark. Out of nine schools, they were the only middle school to compete in the competition.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. For ticket information contact the jazz band’s director, Stanley Coleman at 314-323-4253. Tickets can also be obtained from any Brittany Woods Jazz Band member and will be available at the door the night of the event. The Sheldon Concert Hall is located at 3648 Washington Blvd. in mid-town St. Louis.
