School Board Approves 2008-2009 Calendar

Classes within the School District of University City will begin one week earlier next school year than in previous years.
At its regular meeting on Thursday, February 7, the Board of Education approved the district’s 2008-2009 school year calendar which calls for classes to begin on Monday, August 18. For incoming freshmen at University City High School (UCHS), the first day of school will be Friday, August 15. Provided there are no make up days due to inclement weather related closings, the last day of school for all students will be on May 27, 2009.
District officials say the earlier start will provide additional time for teachers to prepare for MAP testing, allow UCHS students to take their finals prior to winter break instead of afterwards and provide better planning for professional development days.
