Your School Social Worker

Social Worker Stacey Miller has a Masters degree in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She's in her third year at Pershing and has been a Social Worker a total of ten years.

What is the role of the school social worker?

• The school social worker is the liaison between the school, home, and the community. The social worker links community resources to students, their families and school staff that may need them.

• Works closely with the school counselor and school nurse regarding concerns that have been brought to our attention.

• Conducts home visits and discuss school and or home concerns with families in a non-threatening manner in their own environment when appropriate.

• Assist teachers with strategies on improving student’s behavior and bridging the communication between the teacher and parent(s).

• Assist families with clothing, food, shelter, mental health and medical treatment.

• Meet individually and develop focus groups to address specific needs of the students when appropriate.

• Serve as a support and resource to all staff.

What concerns would be addressed by the school social worker?

• Students that show a lack of concern with appearance and behavior

• Excessive Shyness

• Aggressive or impulsive behavior

• Poor peer/adult relationships

• Frequent and severe mood and behavior changes without apparent reason
