UNIVERSITY CITY HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES 2007 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo., July 10, 2007 – A founding organizer of the United States Air Force, three St. Louis area journalists, a world renowned medical researcher and a “Hero,” are among 10 University City High School (UCHS) graduates selected for induction into the school’s 2007 Hall of Fame.

The University City High School Hall of Fame was established in 1999 as a way of recognizing alumni accomplishments.  During its eight-year history, 79 UCHS graduates have been inducted.  Some of the past honorees include, Grammy Award winning rapper Cornell “Nelly” Haynes, sculptor Saunders Schultz, Oakland A’s co-owner Lewis Nelson Wolff, playwright Tennessee Williams, attorney Don Wolff and philanthropist E. Desmond Lee.

            Members of the 2007 University City High School Hall of Fame Induction Class are:

  • Col. Henry Ochs, Retired USAF, Class of 1929, one of the organizers that helped to form the United States Air Force as a separate military branch following World War II
  • Charles Werner, Class of 1947, Labor Attorney & Managing Partner of Schuchat, Cook and Werner
  • Robert “Bob” Hamilton, Class of 1956, News Anchor, KMOX Radio
  • Dr. Marc Hammerman, Class of 1965, Chromalloy Professor of Renal Diseases in Medicine, Professor of Cell Biology & Physiology and Director of the Renal Division, Washington University School of Medicine
  • Eva Ehrlich, Class of 1968, Executive News Producer KSDK-TV & Adjunct Professor, Washington University-St. Louis
  • Sandra "Sandy" (Nelson) Marsh, Class of 1973, Community Volunteer & University City Schools supporter
  • Wiley Price, Class of 1975, Photographer, St. Louis American newspaper
  • David Lee, Class of 1977, U.S. Olympian, 1980, Track & Field
  • Nicole (Hutcherson) Adewale, Class of 1986, Engineer & Co-Founder of ABNA Engineering
  • Leonard Roberts, Class of 1991, Actor, NBC’s Heroes

The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, September 28, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Clayton.  The event begins with a reception at 6 p.m., dinner follows at 7 p.m For ticket and group reservation information, call 314-290-4100.

University City High School alumni are eligible for Hall of Fame nomination 10 years following graduation.  Nominations are also accepted posthumously.  In 2005, Hall of Fame officials decided the inductions should be held every two years instead of annually.
