Classes begin at 8:45 a.m. The 1st bell rings at 8:40 a.m. School dismisses at 3:30 p.m. Students arriving after 8:45 a.m. are tardy and need to report to the office for a tardy admit pass.
When the first bell rings, students line up at the designated class location on the playground. They will be met by their classroom teacher and escorted to the classroom.
On inclement weather days (rain/snow) grades K-2 wait in the playroom and grades 3-6 wait in the gym. Students sit with their class until the first bell rings and their teachers arrive.
Student are not to arrive at school before 8:25 a.m., unless they are enrolled in the YWCA program. There is no supervision on the school playground until 8:25. For the student’s safety it is important that the 8:25 arrival time is followed.

Put your child’s name on everything. Clearly mark coats, lunch boxes, back packs, etc.
A lost and found area is located on the first floor by the north door to the playground. Small items such as keys and glasses will be kept in the school office.
The pick-up/drop-off routine is as follows: Cars are not allowed on the blacktop from 8:00 a.m. to6:00 p.m. Students transported by car are to be dropped off or picked up in front of school. They are to enter and leave the building through the front doors. Students are not to be dropped off or picked up in the parking lot or driveway and should not be walking through those areas.

The parking lot is only for Jackson Park and high school staff parking. If you would like to park and walk your child to the playground area, there are usually spaces along Jackson Avenue or Tulane Avenue.
Bus transportation is provided for students who live one and a quarter (1 1/4) miles or more from the school located in their attendance area. In the morning, buses drop off students at the Balson and Jackson crosswalk. At dismissal, students board the buses on the playground.
Students who walk or are picked-up by car, exit school through the front of the building. Only bus riding students are to exit to the blacktop to board the bus.

Lunch is $1.30, which includes white milk.
Students may bring their lunch, but refrigeration and microwave facilities are not available.
Monthly breakfast and lunch menus are sent home at the beginning of each month.
Lunch Envelopes are available. Meals can be paid for by the day, week, month or months.
Meals Benefit Applications are sent home with students the first day of school and are available in the school office.

Articles of clothing are to be worn the way they were designed to be worn.
Anyone (other than students and staff) entering the school must sign-in and out at the office.
Teachers are always willing to meet with parents, but they are not available during scheduled class time. Arrangement can be made to meet before or after school or during their planning time.
Absences from school need to be reported. Before or after regular school office hours, before 8:00 a.m. or after 4:30 p.m. call 290-4452 and leave a message. During regular office hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. call 290-4451.
Students who arrive late or need to leave early must be signed in or out by a parent, or a parent authorized person. The sign-in/sign-out sheet is in the school office. Failure to sign may result in an absent mark for the day.
Check your student’s backpack regularly for information sent home. This information can be important, such as a note from the teacher, notification of an early dismissal day, the Monday Memo which has dates and information, etc.
Student cell phones must be turned off and kept out of sight during instructional hours. Parents who need to contact students during the school day need to call the main office. Students who are given permission to call a parent during the school day are to use the phone in the office. Any cell phone activity that disrupts instructional time will result in an office referral.
Toys, Hand-Held Video Games, CD players, etc. are not appropriate items for the school environment and should be left at home.
School Nurse is located in room 312. Jackson Park is equipped to render only minor first aid. Parents are contacted for any health care that goes beyond first aid. It is vital that emergency information, telephone numbers and emergency contacts be kept current in the school office and clinic in case of an emergency.
Medical authorization forms, giving permission to dispense prescription and over the counter medication must be completed before medication can be given. Prescription medication must be in the original container and clearly state designated time(s) to be given, dosage, labeled with student’s name and a current date. Any medication should be picked up from the clinic by the last scheduled day of school. Medication will not be held over the summer. Any medication not picked up will be discarded.
School Closings due to inclement weather are announced on major radio and television stations.
